Why this exists

Between something happening and how you feel about it there is a sentence. It is usually short, usually old, and almost never examined. This workbook finds it, tests it against evidence rather than argument, and replaces it with something more accurate — not more positive.

What is inside

Part One · The sentence underneath

  • Why positive thinking fails, with four side-by-side comparisons of slogan versus reframe.
  • Where automatic thoughts come from, and the six features that make them convincing.
  • Fourteen recurring patterns, each paired with the single question that opens it.

Part Two · The CLEAR method

  • Catch, Locate, Evidence, Alternatives, Rewrite and test — with the error each step prevents.
  • A twelve-row table of what counts as evidence and what does not.
  • The strongest single question in the method, and a fully worked example from thought to tested outcome.

Part Three · Six worksheets

  • CLEAR record, with a belief rating before and after.
  • Thought capture log — one week, before you reframe anything.
  • Behavioural test planner: prediction, confidence, action, result.
  • Standards audit for should statements, and a control map for what is and is not yours.
  • Weekly review with a progress table.
  • Six common failures and the correction for each.
